LIVING SOCIAL COUPONS
How do I use my Groupon / Living Social coupon?
1) Do you know which tool you'd like to learn poi, staff or hoop? To get the most out of your 3 classes, we suggest taking all of your classes in just one tool. If you are not sure which tool you want to take classes in, take our Free Intro to Fire Dance Class first.

2) Once you know which tool you are interested in learning, check out the schedule here, then RSVP by e-mailing here, and make sure to show up at the first class of the 6 week session unless you have made a special arrangement with us.

What if I want to continue through the 6 week session after I've used my 3 Groupon / Living Social classes?
You are welcome to continue taking classes. For payment, we will subtract your 3 classes already paid for from the total 12 classes and you will owe the remaining balance.

GETTING STARTED
Which tool should I start with poi, staff or hoop?
This choice is yours to make. If you are not sure, we suggest taking our Free Intro to Fire Dance Class which is always held right before a new 6 week session starts.

What is the Free Intro to Fire Dance Class?
The Free Intro Class is always held right before we start a new 6 week session. In this class we do introductions followed by a demonstration in each of the tools poi, staff and hoop (without fire). The group is then split into 3 and we spend the next 45 minutes learning some basic instruction in each of the tools. Afterwards we circle back up and go over class details and answer questions. We end the class with a spin jam where we open the room up and you can choose your favorite tool and play around a bit. We have practice poi, staves, hoops and DVDs that are available for purchase if you'd like to get started right away and we also accept class deposits for the upcoming session. When is the next Free Intro Class?

How do I reserve my spot in a class?
Once you know which tool or tools you want to learn, check out the schedule and the start date for the next session and make sure it works for you. If it works, the best way to reserve your spot is to leave a deposit of $100. To leave a deposit follow this link, click on the class you want to take, then scroll down and click on the "Add to Cart" button. If you have any questions about reserving your spot in a class, e-mail reserve@firegroove.com

Can I drop in at any point or do I need to start at the beginning of a session?
You must start your classes at the beginning of a 6 week session. Each class builds upon the prior class and if you jump into the middle of a session you will be way behind and it will be frustrating for you and the instructor.

Are your classes for complete beginners?
Yes. We expect that you have never tried to fire dance or spin poi, staff or hoop before. If you do have some experience, that's fine too. You'll just have a little head start.

I have some experience spinning, which level class should I take?

If you have some prior experience but would consider yourself at a beginner/intermediate level, we still recommend you taking our full beginners class. Many times spinners are self taught which means you have learned bits and pieces of material but you are missing the full foundation of moves and flow. We cover a lot of new material in our beginners classes and if you find yourself learning quickly, the instructor will most likely give you more material to work on than the rest of the class. If you think you are at an intermediate/advanced level, please e-mail us to discuss which class is right for you.

Can kids take your classes?

Though the average age ranges from 18 - 40, kids are welcome to take our classes! In a class with mostly adults, we have found that kids tend to be on their best behavior and actually learn incredibly fast. On the other hand, taking a class with your child seems to be a bit more challenging. Kids tend to be more emotional and easily pull their parents (and others) focus away from learning. We have had great success teaching to children between the ages of 7- 18.

ABOUT THE CLASSES
Do I need to take both classes per week or can I just do once a week?
We strongly recommend that students do take both classes per week. Each class builds upon the prior one so if you are only taking once a week, you will be missing out on half of the material. You will also be getting behind which can be frustrating to both you and the instructor. If you absolutely can only take classes once per week, you can still join the session but we recommend that you also purchase one of our instructional DVDs that goes along with the course. On the days you are missing classes, pop in the DVD and practice!

What if I sign up for 12 classes and then end up missing some?
Once you sign up for the session, it is your responsibility to make it to classes. We are holding your spot in the class and assume that you will be there. If you miss a class during the session, you can attend the make-up class toward the end of the 6 weeks. If you have some type of unexpected emergency that keeps you from attending classes, we will work with you and figure out a way for you to attend the follow session or refund unused classes.

How often do you start a new session of classes?
We hold 6 new class sessions per year, once every 2 months. Generally you can expect that we will be starting a new session during the following months: January, March, May, July, September and November. Click here to see when the next session is starting.

Where are the classes held?
Currently we are holding classes at the Woman's Club of Hollywood. Located at 1749 N. Labrea Ave, Los Angeles 90046. There is plenty of free and easy parking. Just pull into the driveway and park behind the building.

Do I need to bring my own poi, staff or hoop to class?
If you already have your own practice tools, bring them. If you don't we will bring new equipment that you can purchase and take home with you. We also usually have a couple extra poi, staves and hoops to lend out to students.

How many students are in the classes?
Our average class size ranges from 8 - 12 students but we have had as few as 6 and as many as 20.

What should I bring to class?
Any practice tool that you have, drinking water and wear comfortable workout/yoga type clothes.

When will I get to start dancing with fire?
You'll get to dance with fire for the first time at the last class, the Lighting Up Ceremony.

What will I learn in the beginners 6 week session?
The first 5 weeks of classes covers all of the foundation moves in your chosen tool. These moves are the building blocks that will lead you to a strong and balanced practice ahead. In addition to learning the foundation moves, you'll learn combinations and transitions, how to link everything together and create flow. The 6th week of classes covers the Fire Safety Workshop & the Lighting Up Ceremony.

What is covered in your Fire Safety Workshop?
In this 1.5 hour workshop we cover everything you will need to know in order to light up safely. This includes: necessary gear (creating your fire & safety kit), clothing, hair, all about fuels, fire extinguishers, fire bans & regulations, dipping, spinning off and lighting up, how to be a good fire safety, extinguishing tools and dealing with burns.

What is the Lighting Up Ceremony?
The Lighting Up Ceremony is the final class of the 6 week session. In this class you will get a chance to explore actually dancing with fire for the very first time. We start class with a short yoga warm-up to clear your mind, ground your body and let go of any anxiety & fears you might be experiencing. Fire is a very powerful element and working with it can help you through any transitions in your life. Before lighting up, we take a moment to think about something you are ready to let go of in your life, or something that you are ready to bring into your life with the fire. Afterwards we run through safety again and then we start lighting up. Students will usually be lighting up at the same time as 1 or 2 others. Safety is our number one priority and we work hard to create a comfortable and safe setting for everyone. We encourage students to take it really slow their first time and to only to moves they feel really comfortable performing.
