Everyone needs a break from their day-to-day
routines... think of Spin Jam like "recess
time". Drop your work and come out and play!
The DJ and musicians arrive, the healers arrive,
the artists arrive, the spinners arrive, you
arrive, and then........ we create, we play,
we dance, we connect! We invite you to come
down to our magical slice of Los Angeles to
check it out. What to bring? Glow and practice
poi, staves and hoops, art projects, roller

Poi
Groove™ Basics
"Poi"
literally means ball on a cord and originates
with the Maori tribe of New
Zealand. Men, women and children have used the
art to increase dexterity, coordination, flexibility,
and strength for thousands of years. You'll learn
over 30 different moves in forward and backwards,
in split-time and parallel time including: Earth,
Love, Butterfly, Dragonfly, Advanced Dragonfly,
the Wave, Flirt, Chasing the Sun, Sun and the
Forward and Backward Weave. You'll also learn
how to link them all together with a class focusing
on combinations and transitions. When you finish
with this course, you will have a solid foundation
in the art of poi spinning. You'll feel
comfortable enough to add in your own dance style.
You'll also have a strong
knowledge on fire safety, including hands-on experience.
You can either take this class twice a week for
6 weeks or once a week for 12 weeks. The
series ends with a special "lighting-up ceremony"
where in a very safe setting, each individual
will
have the opportunity to explore dancing with fire.

This
class runs once a week for 6 weeks and focuses
on developing your style, choreography, and performance
technique. This course builds upon the foundation
taught in Poi Groove Basics. You'll learn:
Thread the Needle, Take-Outs, Stops,
Stalls, Wraps, Gremlin, Basic Flowers, Archer
(aka Lock-Outs), Isolations, Basic Crank, and
Buzz Saw. Students are invited to a fire jam at
the end of the session.

Held once a week for 6 weeks, this challenging
course focuses on the technical
side of poi spinning. We cover moves such as:
Under the Leg Kicks & Turns, BTB Weave Forward,
Backward & Turns, BTB Waist Wrap, Isolations,
Tosses, One-Handed spinning, Advanced Wraps, Advanced
Gremlin, Advanced Flowers & Anti-Spins, the
5-Beat Weave Forward & Backward, the 5-Beat
Corkscrew, Waist Wrap Butterflies, Vertical Stalls
and Spiral Wraps, Anti-Spin Crank Variations,
Split-time Butterfly Variations, Inversions, Advanced
Anti-Spins, Hyperloops and Tangles. Students are

Groove™ Basics
Staff
dancing has evolved from its traditional Polynesian
roots into one of the most exciting new forms
of dance and exercise. Staff dancing is excellent
for
strengthening the body, increasing coordination,
and creating a sense of calm
and confidence in the body and mind. This class
is held twice a week for 6 weeks,
each building upon the prior one. You'll learn
over 30 moves including Propeller, Forwards and
Backwards Weave, Propeller to Weave Transitions,
180 & 360
degree Weave Turns, Forwards and Backwards Side-to-Side
Weave, Side-to-
Side Weave transitions, Warrior, Warrior Combos,
Behind-the-Back (BTB) High
and Low pass, BTB Combos, BTB Turns, 360 degree
BTB pass, Helicopter,
Propeller to Helicopter transition, Whip, Horizontal
BTB pass, Horizontal BTB Stall, Hover, Hover to
Helicopter transitions, Double Stack, Hand-Rolls,
and the 3 Beat Weave. This class ends with hands-on
fire safety training and a special "lighting-up

Groove™ Intermediate
This course continues to build upon the foundation
taught in Staff Groove Basics
and focuses on developing style, choreography
and performance technique.
You'll learn how to transition fluidly between
moves, you'll continue to explore turning, under
the legs, tossing, and contact staff! This class
is held once a week for 5
weeks. You'll learn: Forwards/Backwards 3 Beat
Weave, 3 Beat Weave Combos, Hand Roll 3 Beat Combos,
Tosses, Under the Legs, Contact Staff, BTB Takeover
Pass, Reverse BTB Pass, Thumb-lock Forwards/Backwards
plus Handroll and BTB Continuous. Students are
invited to a fire jam at the end of the session.

Hoop
Groove™ Basics
Hoop Groove is hula-hooping like you've
never seen before! Imagine spiraling the hoop
around every inch of your body. It's sensual and
mesmerizing. It's sexy and fun and it builds confidence
while toning and strengthening your core. This
class focuses on building a solid foundation in
hoop dance. You will learn to hoop in both directions
around the waist and hips, lift the hoop off of
your body and place it back down with both hands,
hoop around the upper torso, shoulders and neck.
You'll also learn to hoop in the vertical plane,
angles, jumps and hooping around the thighs.
You can either take this class either once a week
or twice a week for 6 weeks.This
class ends with hands-on fire safety training
and a special "lighting-up ceremony".

Hoop
Groove™ Intermediate
This class will take everything you
learned in Hoop Groove Basics to the next
level while continuing to introduce new
concepts and moves. We will perfect chest/torso
hooping and introduce take-outs & duck-outs.
We will perfect earth & sky angles and
add in turning and take-outs. We will explore
leg hooping, vertical planes, and jump into
isolations & iso-pops. This class has
an overall emphasis on hooping in both directions,
breaks and paddling which ultimately will
give complete freedom of dance and movement.
Students are invited to a fire jam at the
end of the session.

In
this advanced staff class you'll learn the following
using two staves: Parallel Time (Weave, 3 Bt.
Weave, Handrolls, Half Weaves, Turning), Opposite
Time (Weave,
3 Bt. Weave, Handrolls, Half-Weave, Turning),
Butterfly (Weave, 3 Bt. Weave, Handrolls, Half-Weave,
Turning), Transition from Parallel to Opposite
to Butterfly
(Stalls both left and right hand), Extending or
Retracting movements to create
different patterns, Spinning Above the Head (Weave,
Half- Weave, Arm-Extensions, Turning), Using Momentum
in Quick Turns, Off-Centered Griping (Isolations,
Forearm Transitions, 3 Bt. Weaves, Handrolls),
Tossing (Parallel, Opposite, using different releases
and passes), Interlocking the staves in both Butterfly
and

Staff
Contact staff is a form of spinning
that focuses on manipulating a staff using
your entire body. Material covered: Basic
Roles (Hand, Arm, Elbow, Neck and Shoulder
in Horizontal and Vertical. Combining Roles
(using multiple points on your body to sustain
contact moves, turning with contact moves,
horizontal movements, arm transfers from
hand to neck, neck transfers, combining
arm and neck transfers in one fluid movement.)
Fishtailing (learn the basics of fishtailing
in forwards, backwards, turning and transfers.)

Fire Eating & Painting
This daring art form requires great skill
and deep focus as the fire is almost
magically drawn across the body and placed into
the mouth. Fire eating and
painting will bring you closer to the element
than ever before, dissolving fear and
doubt, and creating complete confidence
and awareness. In
this 2 hour workshop you'll
learn how to eat fire, tunnel (blow a small flame
out of your mouth) and transfer the
flame from various body parts. This workshop is
perfect for performers who'd like to add a little
something to their repertoire. It's also great
for people who are ready to conquer their fear
of the flame.

Fire Fans
Fans are one of the most graceful forms
of fire dancing. They allow the freedom
to incorporate many different styles of
dance and creative expression into a performance.
They are absolutely mesmerizing to watch
and so much fun to perform with! These workshops
cover fan dance, choreography, performance,
flow and technical moves. Each workshop
builds in difficulty so we highly recommend
taking them in order. There is an additional
fee to attend the Fire Safety Workshop and
Lighting Up Ceremony for those who are interested.

Bellydance
Fire Fusion
Bellydance is an ancient, sensual art
that is a perfect stylization to add even
more sass and flare to your fire dancing.
In this 6 week course you will get a great,
toning warm-up, learn solid technique, practice
effective drills, and learn a new Bellydance
Fire Fusion combo each week. Combos can
be combined to create a fiery choreography
with palm torches or they can be be enjoyed
as stand alone combos of the week (i.e.
drop-ins okay weeks 1-5). Course includes
fire safety, choreography notes, a practice
video and an optional performance of the
choreography at the Lighting Up Ceremony.
Perfect for beginner-intermediate fire or
bellydancers. (Palm torches not included).
