Why is it that circular shapes and patterns seem to put us at ease? Is it because our home, Earth is in the shape of a sphere? Or perhaps it's because the circular sun and moon smile down upon us everyday. Maybe it's because atoms, the base of all things living are spherical. The seasons run in a cycle, a tree adds a new ring with each year, time is calculated in a circle. From stonehenge to crop circles, this pattern has intrigued humanity from the beginning of time. This must be part of the reason that we enjoy spinning all of the circular shapes we create with our poi, staves and hoops. Are you ready to jump into the circles?

"I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not ever complete the last one, but I give myself to it" - Rainer Maria Rilke

Groove Around Town

The hottest performance troupe in Los Angeles has been tearing up the scene, from charity events, to nightclubs, promotions to birthday parties. Fire Groove is known for their daredevil skills, fiery and glowing performances, their personal and professional demeanor, and as the sexiest performers in this city!

Here's what a few prominent Angelenos had to say about Fire Groove's recent performances:

"I want to plan another party JUST to see you perform again!" said Tracey Larner an event coordinator.

"How many of you worked my event?" asked Larry Parks, owner of the Saddle Ranch and head of the charity organization P.L.A.Y. When we replied 16, he gasped... "It seemed more like 60! You were the best performers I have ever seen!"

So what makes Fire Groove so hot right now? Nobody say's it better than Kamala Mathis, Co-Owner / Marketing Director of Fire Groove, "We are the top in the industry. Whether it's fire, burlesque, go-go's, stilters, aerialists, or other specialty acts...our dancers and performers are the best there are. We collaborate with members of every troupe out there to keep our shows fresh, hot and exciting! We work hard to be the best we can be and to do that, we practice, constantly recruit, and always push the bar a little higher with each show! You think you can bring it? Come on then, come join us!"

You may have seen Fire Groove at these recent events:
* Sutra Lounge ~ White Party

* Club Opera / Crimson ~ Telemundo Private Event
* French Tuesday's ~ The Custom Hotel

News from the Shop

Duvetyne

We have been preaching safety for so long, and we have seen too many wet towels being used up and down the west coast! At least something is being used, but there is nothing worse than the smell of a wet moldy towel permanently infused into each one of your fire tools! Duvetyne is an essential part of fire dancing and you can keep putting out tool after tool for a very long time off of just one piece. So go ahead and be the cool person in the group and whip out some duvy, and be the safety that everyone loves.

Fuel Can

This high tech dip can is your perfect fire dancing friend. The lid pops on and off easily which will ensure your safety while you are spinning and traveling. Use it to dip poi, staves, hoops, and almost anything else you can fit into the one gallon dip can! Fire Marshals love it because it is not glass (will not break), and it is not plastic (will not melt). These fuel cans are going like hot cakes so get yours before our stock runs out!

Replacement Oggz

For those of you who thought you had to buy a whole new set of oggz if one of yours breaks, we have defied the laws of glow toys to bring you a single OGG! So for all of those half sets of oggz laying around your house, give an ogg a home... That's right we have lonely oggz at the Fire Groove house that would love a chance to get out and play with another compatible ogg. So if you would like to adopt an ogg please let us know because in our eyes there is nothing worse than an ogg without a tracer.

Double Fire Staves

We have always offered double staves to our students but never had them up on the website. Recently we have received so much positive feedback about the quality of our staves that it would be mean of us not to offer this product to the world. So check them out! If you like our 4 ft single staff then you will love our 3 ft double staves. They are constructed the exact same way as our 4 footers (3/4 in aluminum tubing, super comfortable grip with a break in the middle so you can see and feel the center at all times, and 2.5 feet of kevlar on each end). Get them while they are HOT!!! Then light em up and make 'em even HOTTER!!!

The Buzz....

"I have discovered there are people who defy gravity; people who have the power to make objects levitate and spin around their body. And as if this levitating magic was not enough these objects are then set ablaze so it circles around their bodies creating a fiery blaze of art? Welcome to the world of Fire Groove." - Santa Monica Observer (August, 2008)
"These days it seems the casual aside, "Oh yes, I'm in a circus..." falls from the lips of hip urbanites at a rate comparable to bridge club attendance of the past. It's something to do, a way to connect with others, a social outlet." - Metro Mix (July, 2008)
Ashley Brooke Moore, and aspiring dancer and actress in her 20's canceled her $36 a month membership at Bally's and started taking free yoga classes at Runyon Canyon Park. - Los Angeles Times (June, 2008)
"Free scenic exercise classes sounds like a stretch...but they can be had by all, compliments of Fire Groove's outdoor yoga in Runyon Park." - Vital Juice Daily (June, 2008)

Oh My Gawd....New Kelly Videos!

Since the success of the infamous "Shoes" music video, comedian Liam Sullivan a.k.a. Kelly has continued creating hilarious videos that may just make you pee your pants. Here's two more, see if you can spot Fire Groove in them.

Yoga Saves Lives

The last round of Yoga for a Cause was a huge success! We raised awareness, good energy and nearly $600 for the Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition. You may ask yourself how much good can a mere $600 really do? Please read below to see a detailed list of just how your contribution has helped save the lives of several people!

The volunteers of The Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition are all-but overcome with gratitude for what you've done for us, and it occurs to me that the best way to thank you is to tell you how we're spending your donation.

Motel room for five nights for Nick, who broke his foot and was told to stay off it -- how, you might ask? ($228)

Vicodin and Ibuprofen for Nick ($23)

California ID for Chato, who's just gotten a job at Taco Bell but has no way of identifying himself ($26)

Telephone assistance for Robert, who is trying to help the parents of another client (Cassie) persuade her to come back to Australia and kick her meth habit ($90) -- they call him on his cell phone

Car Registration for a new (used) Volvo just given to Hymie, who for nine years has been living in his car, but who now will use his new car to recruit volunteers in the Orthodox community of Hancock Park ($53) -- he's Israeli and a graduate of Tel Aviv University

Clothes, including Ninja Boots, if we can find them, for Gil, who has just been taken into The Lamp Community downtown, where he is now sleeping indoors, in very good company, for the first time in three years ($40)

Prepaid phone card ($25), voice mail ($15), mailbox ($18), bus pass ($17), and laundry ($15) for Alexis, who's been on the street since he arrived from Atlanta three years ago, but who has just taped an episode each, courtesy of Central Casting, for HEROES and ELI STONE.

Now that you've all given generously and to great effect, please come and volunteer when the spirit moves you. If you can't help us cook or serve our nightly meal, you can join our Flying Squad, which deals, one-on-one, with the miscellaneous problems of living in the street, as per the above. Don't be shy. Just call Ted on (213) 631-0463 or e-mail landrethassociates@juno.com.

With thanks to you all, from all of us, Ted Landreth (Volunteer Secretary, GWHFC)
