GUSH

Under
the “big tent” of the
FOCUSFish Flying Circus,
traditional circus arts
meet non-traditional performance
arts to create a unique,
dynamic performance experience.
Add pulsepounding live
music, animated projections,
larger-than-life puppetry,
flying children, and comedy,
and you have GUSH!
This
year’s all-new show is
told through the eyes
of Mr. Robb, “the last
happy clown on earth.”
This mythical journey
takes our happy clown
to unhappy places created
by fire dancers, tawdry
hand-balancers, careless
jugglers and jaded, unitard-clad
comedians. It’s not until
our fearless trapeze artist,
Eric Newton, shows us
how to “Rise Up the Love,”
do we see the happy clown
figure out how to survive
in this delicate world
we live in. With narration
by TV and Film actress,
Michelle Hurd, and fresh,
inspired rock n' roll,
by the live band Storytyme,
FOCUSfish serves up an
exciting night of entertainment
“under the big top.”
"...nothing
looked more magical
than the set by Fire Groove,
with flames leaping
from hoops, fans, wheels
and batons — all manipulated
flawlessly by Hannah Mooney,
Kamala Mathis and Lester
Mooney." -

Step
up is a national nonprofit
membership organization
dedicated to strengthening
community resources for
women and girls. Fire
Groove founders Hannah
and Kamala have been showing
these strong, determined
young women how to have
fun and stay fit with
poi since April 2007.
" We were raised in a
small community in Marcola,
Oregon,"
says
eldest sister Kamala Mathis.
"The sense of strength
and well being that you
derive from a community
is like nothing I have
ever experienced. Your
community becomes your
family, your eyes and
ears...your rock."
It
is so important to help
young girls feel good
about their bodies and
to build confidence at
an early age. Poi is a
wonderful tool to bring
about this positive change!

way to Burning Man.
Starting in mid-July,

Beach in the Grand

to say about Fire Groove...
"If
I looked like that I
would walk around naked

Well thanks for the
compliment Shanna. We
feel the same way about
you!
So
if you are in the area
August 17th - 19th be

| Blazin'
Bookkeeper |
| |
|
Jaime
Gularte is not only an incredibly
talented bookkeeper but she
is also a smokin' hot fire dancer.
She has been training with Fire
Groove for several years now
and will begin teaching staff
with Lester and Jade in the
coming months. Jaime has so
much to offer as a performer,
teacher and entrepreneur. We
are honored and excited to introduce
this amazing woman to you!
Fire
Groove: Didn't you start
by learning poi and staff at
the same time?
Jaime: Yes I did.
Fire Groove: In what
ways was this challenging?
Jaime: At times it seemed
like a lot of information to
retain and it also took a little
time for my body to build the
physical endurance to do both.
Fire Groove: In what ways
did you find this helpful?
Jaime: More than anything
it was great having variety.
At times when I might have felt
frustrated learning a new move
with either Poi or Staff, I
could switch over to the other
one for a fun and refreshing
break.
Fire Groove: It looks
like you've focused in on the
Staff now. What is it that you
love about the staff more than
poi or hoop?
Jaime: I love that the
Staff is very grounded. It is
a solid unbendable force that
moves with your personal flow
and energy. It is humbling and
incredibly beautiful.
Fire Groove: Have you
noticed any personal changes
that have taken place since
you've started spinning?
Jaime: Absolutely! Fire
dancing has kept me very active
physically and socially. And,
even more importantly it has
challenged me to break through
self doubts and performance
fears.
Fire Groove: You just got
back from a couple months traveling
in South & Central America,
did you do any fire dancing
there?
Jaime: I did a lot! And,
they were some of the most special
and exciting times of my travels!!
Fire Groove: How did
people react?
Jaime: People were completely
enthralled by it and would ask
tons of questions. I ended up
teaching lessons to a few and
even saw one of my students
have his very first "light up!"
Fire Groove: Did you
meet any fire dancers?
Jaime: I met tons! I
now have fire family around
the world.
Fire Groove: How do you
feel when you are spinning fire?
Jaime: Sensual, peaceful,
creative, free, extraordinary,
and blissful...Just to list
a few :)

| Oregon
Reunion |
| |
|
Fire
Groove kicked off this summer
with our annual trip back to
Oregon to reunite with family
and friends, teach as many workshops
as possible, and to hit up our
favorite festival of all - the
Oregon Country Fair.
We
taught a total of 15 workshops
in staff, poi, hoop, and fire
eating making this our most
successful trip back to the
homeland so far (success is
measured in the amount spinning
per hour done by the Fire Groove
team and those directly surrounding
them). Workshops were held in
both Portland and Eugene and
would not have been possible
without the support from our
amazing friends and family in
helping us spread the word "Fire
Groove is Coming…". In fact
the word was spread so well
that we are still getting phone
calls and inquiries so we will
be holding several more within
the next couple of weeks. These
workshops will be taught by
Jade (aka MoJo), so please e-mail
us or call us at 541.554.7491
and let us know if you are interested.
The
Oregon Country Fair is a very
sentimental festival for us
because it was the first place
that we were introduced to fir e
dancing. This year we had an
amazing performance
combining Fire Groove and the
Dragon Tribe (who first showed
us how mesmerizing fire dancing
can be). It went off flawlessly
and once again we would like
to take the time to thank all
of you who helped us put that
together.
We
were surrounded by so much love
this trip and we are so grateful
to be part of an amazing community
of unconditional support where
each of us are encouraged to
reach our full potential. So
once again thank you all for
your amazing support, and we'll
see you back in Oregon in December!
