New Year's Eve with Fire Groove

It's 11:45 PM December 31st, 2007. Fire Groove is backstage at the Grand Ballroom atop the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. The whole crew of over 45 specialty performers prepares for the pre-midnight show. This year DASK has requested the ultimate fantasy theme: "Eye's Wide Shut" and to kick off the show, Fire Groove has re-created the mysterious ritual scene from the movie...

The ballroom is suddenly filled with deep sounding Gregorian chanting and all eyes focus on the stage to see a seemingly faceless man wearing a long red cloak. He has a tall staff and
is swinging a smoking sage ball on a chain. Ten dark cloaked and masked forms move onto the stage and circle around the man, the chanting becomes even more intense and with a bang on the staff the cloaks drop to the ground to reveal 10 beautiful women. With a swivel of the hips the masked women acknowledge each other and then float off the stage.

The energy is then kicked up to another level as Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child fills the huge room. The Silk Sisters and Niel Kemph start with an amazing aerial show while Geoff Gallegos a.k.a. GG whales on the saxophone. After a breathtaking aerial performance, Susie of Fire Groove and Krissy Rose heat things up with a sensual swirling fire hoop set. The hoopers split apart and the amazing Eros (Cirque du Soleil) and Megan take center stage for a jaw-droping stilt breakdancing set that leaves the crowd cheering and going wild! As the music slides into a funky rendition of Foxy Lady, Shawn Barry with his delicious voice and the Hells Belles burlesque troupe take the floor and the energy starts to rise again. Fire meets burlesque as Hannah and Kamala of Fire Groove swirl rings of fire around the burlesque dancers in a sexy battle.

As Hannah and Kamala dazzle the spectators with their fire poi, the Groove Girls light up the backdrop with a stunning fire fans set. Then, even more fire lights up the back of the stage as Lester and Jade of Fire Groove and their mind-blowing double staff show takes the floor. Let Me Stand Next To Your Fire is jamming throughout the ballroom as fiery staves are tossed, isolated, and spun around our guest performer Andy House who mesmerizes the audience with his notorious spiral wraps. And just when it felt like there couldn't possibly be anything more exhilarating and visually stimulating, Iris and Eric of Phoenix Project perform a beautiful kung fu fire set with huge flaming swords.

All at once the fire is done and the crowd cheers as the Chinese Lions (Phoenix Project) pounce onto stage to end the show with their festive energy. The entire Fire Groove troupe dances back onto stage for the big midnight countdown. As the clock strikes 12:00, fireworks fill the ballroom and confetti cannons explode from every direction. What an amazing way to bring in the New Year!

2008 Workshop Tour

Fire Groove is working on our 2008 nation-wide workshop tour and we want to come to your town. We are looking for outgoing individuals to help us set up all level workshops in poi, staff, double staff, contact staff, hooping, fans and fire-eating. Workshop hosts will be a key factor in helping us find locations to teach, promoting the workshops to the local spinning and fire communities, and helping to arrange lodging for the fire instructors. As a reward the host will be entitled to discounted workshops and/or Fire Groove products. Please feel free to contact Fire Groove via jade@firegroove.com with questions and suggestions concerning the possibilities of workshops in your area.
